A man wanted in connection with a Redondo Beach murder has barricaded himself in his car on a Utah freeway Tuesday, according to officials in the area.
Earlier Tuesday, a person in New York state called Redondo Beach police and asked they check on a woman living in the 1200 block of Agate Street.
When officers arrived at the apartment, they found a woman’s body and began investigating the incident as a homicide, according to Redondo Beach police.
Russell Scott Goldberg, 49, was identified as a person of interest and described as driving a 2007 Green Saturn Vue with a yellow bumper sticker, according to a police press release.
Redondo Beach police issued an attempt-to-locate bulletin around 6:15 p.m. MST Tuesday, local news KSL reported.
About 10 minutes later, a Utah Highway Patrol unit spotted a green Saturn believed to be Goldberg’s.
The standoff, which closed a section of the I-15 near Beaver, Utah, started about 6:30 p.m. when police attempted to stop "a dangerous individual," officials told KSL.
A SWAT team was called in to assist in the standoff, KSL reported. Officials believe only one person is in the vehicle, though it was unclear if he was armed.
