THE ALPHABET AND CAPITALIZATION

[From ABC's print two copies of the model letter sheet, one for you and one for the learner. You will also need pencils, and a tablet.]


You have been writing "small" letters. Now you are going to learn to write "large" or capital letters. We use a capital letter on the first word of a new sentence. We also use a capital letter to start a proper name like your name. When we make the beginning letter in a word or name a capital letter, we capitalize it.


Script for each letter in the lines:

  1. Say the name of the letter and trace each part of the capital letter on your sheet after watching me trace the part. ["A" is formed in three parts and "C" is formed in one part.]
  2. Say the name of the letter and trace each part of the capital letter on your own three times.
  3. Say the name of the letter and write write the capital letter three times.

Script for each line in the challenge:

  1. Say and copy each letter in the line.
  2. Say and write each letter in the line and repeat until you can do it rapidly and correctly without peeking.


CHALLENGE 1: Letters A, B, C, D, E.

CHALLENGE 2: Letters F, G, H, I, J.

CHALLENGE 3: Letters K, L, M, N, O.

CHALLENGE 4: Letters P, Q, R, S, T.

CHALLENGE 5: Letters U, V, W, X, Y, Z.

CHALLENGE 6: Review

  1. Practice saying the names of all of the letters in every line until you can do it rapidly and correctly without peeking.
  2. Say and write every capital letter in alphabetic order.
  3. Say and write every small letter in alphabetic order.
